New View Society was established in August 1973 in response to the deinstitutionalization of patients from Riverview Psychiatric Hospital. Many previous Riverview patients were now living in the community and needed social, recreational, or work programs to assist them with community integration. New View Society was formed to meet that need.

It offers recovery focused services, founded on the principles of Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR). PSR puts the individual (not the illness) at the centre of their recovery. PSR promotes personal recovery, successful community integration and satisfactory quality of life for people who have a mental health diagnosis. Psychosocial rehabilitation services and supports are collaborative, person directed, and individualized, and an essential element of the human services spectrum. PSR is based on the knowledge that every person, no matter what the level of disability, has the capacity to learn and grow.

All core programs in the clubhouse, employment and housing departments are possible due to funding from BC Housing, the Fraser Health Authority, and United Way.
