(TRI-CITIES) July 26, 2024 — Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce calls for a swift solution to the funding challenges at TransLink, as detailed in a report issued yesterday by the public corporation responsible for Metro Vancouver's transportation system.

The report details potential new transit cuts at the end of 2025 if a new funding model is not found, including almost no bus service in Port Coquitlam, eliminating the West Coast Express, and reducing Skytrain service by 30 per cent.

"At a time when our population is growing at the highest rate in our history, the thought of reducing our public transit service is appalling," says Leslie Courchesne, CEO, Tri-Cities Chamber. "Not only would this have a massively negative impact to businesses in the Tri-Cities, the overall well-being of our communities would suffer. We need a solution right now, before the unthinkable cuts outlined in this report become a nightmarish reality."
