(PORT MOODY) August 15, 2024 — Shop Local Port Moody (SLPM) and the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce have signed a partnership agreement to support locally owned independent businesses, and promote the importance of shopping local.

"We are very excited to be partnering with the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce to breathe new life into Shop Local Port Moody," said Lisa Beecroft, Co-Founder, SLPM and Owner of Gabi & Jules and Caffé Divano. "When Shop Local Port Moody began back in 2012, it was our mission to spread the word about the importance of shopping locally to preserve the unique small business community in our city. Now more than ever we need our community to rally behind small businesses. With this partnership, Shop Local Port Moody will once again be an active, unified voice for independent small businesses."

"Shop Local Port Moody has tapped into a passionate community of local business owners and the residents who are so proud to support them," said Leslie Courchesne, CEO, Tri-Cities Chamber. "Our Chamber is thrilled to help grow this initiative. Locally owned independent businesses play a vital role in our local economy, and add so much to the unique character of our beautiful city.”

Shop Local Port Moody is a membership-based initiative guided by a volunteer steering committee of Port Moody business owners, including Taryn Barker (The Little Butcher), Yvette Cuthbert (Rocky Point Ice Cream), Julie Veres (Unmediocre General & Kitchen Stores), and Beecroft. The new partnership will leverage the Tri-Cities Chamber to manage the operations of SLPM.

Locally owned independent businesses in Port Moody can purchase a membership in SLPM for $100 per year. And for those businesses who are also members of the Tri-Cities Chamber, the SLPM membership is included at no extra charge.

SLPM is planning a number of key initiatives throughout the year to encourage shopping and supporting local, including activities during National Small Business Week, BC Shop Local Week, Taste of the Tri-Cities, SLPM's Shop Hop, and Port Moody's Car-Free Day.

The two-year agreement is the Chamber's third partnership with local business associations, having signed the Downtown Port Coquitlam BIA in 2022 and Austin Heights BIA earlier this year.
