Tri-Cities Chamber welcomes BC Hydro’s $360M investment in clean power infrastructure

Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce CEO Leslie Courchesne speaks at BC Hydro's $360M clean power funding announcement, Coquitlam, August 27, 2024.

(COQUITLAM) August 27, 2024 — The Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce applauds the significant investment by BC Hydro in local power infrastructure to meet the needs of the region's economic growth and rise in population.

As part of its 10-year capital plan, BC Hydro will construct $360 million worth of capital projects in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody and Anmore over the next decade. The projects will upgrade and expand the electricity grid, and provide clean power for businesses, homes, and growing electrification and transportation needs.

“The Tri-Cities business community welcomes this significant investment by BC Hydro to power our growing economy and growing communities for decades to come," said Tri-Cities Chamber CEO Leslie Courchesne. "These projects for the Tri-Cities will expand our power grid and ensure our region has sustainable access to clean energy.”

"A strong economy and a healthy business environment are essential to funding the infrastructure and public services that our communities rely on. The provincial government and the crown corporations they own can only fund major infrastructure projects and public services if businesses enjoy a healthy investment climate. As we head into the BC general election this Fall, we urge the next provincial government to focus on economic growth so that businesses can prosper, British Columbians thrive and communities flourish," she said.

The Tri-Cities Chamber is neutral in all elections, as it is stated in its bylaws to not support any particular party for public office. As the voice of business for Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra, the Tri-Cities Chamber advocates on behalf of its members with all levels of government, on issues that affect business, community, and economic prosperity in our region.
