Tri-Cities Chamber extends heartfelt farewell to the TriCity News

(TRI-CITIES) February 24, 2025 — In response to Glacier Media's announcement of the planned closure of the TriCity News in May of this year, Leslie Courchesne, CEO of the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce released the following statement:

"It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the upcoming closure of the TriCity News. Since its inception in 1985, the TriCity News has been an essential part of our community, keeping residents informed, engaged, and connected. Their dedication to local journalism has played a vital role in shaping the Tri-Cities, sharing our stories, celebrating our successes, and shedding light on the issues that matter most.

As a longstanding member, partner and supporter of the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce, the TriCity News has been a champion for local businesses, helping amplify their voices and highlight the incredible work being done in our region. Their commitment to high-quality, community-focused journalism will be deeply missed.

Local journalism is one of the vital threads that weaves the fabric of our community together. It fosters informed conversations, strengthens civic engagement, and holds space for the stories that define who we are. The loss of the TriCity News leaves a significant gap that will be felt by our residents, businesses, local governments, non-profit organizations and more across Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra.

To the dedicated journalists, editors, staff and publishers who have poured their passion into this publication over the years—thank you. Your work has made a lasting impact, and our community is better because of you.

This closure is a reminder to not take for granted the pillar organizations in the Tri-Cities, and of the importance of supporting local media. Their role in our society is irreplaceable, and it is up to all of us to champion the voices that bring our communities to life."

Glacier Media Inc., the parent company of the TriCity News, has been a member of the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce for 40 years. The company's recent announcement also shared plans to cease operations of the Burnaby Now and New Westminster Record.
