(OTTAWA) October 15, 2022 — This week, Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce Vice Chair Jenifer Wright and CEO Leslie Courchesne attended the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Annual General Meeting and Convention in Ottawa.
More than 400 representatives from Chambers and Boards of Trade across the country met to deliberate on policies covering a broad spectrum of federal issues critical to the success of the business community. In total, delegates considered more than 60 policy resolutions on topics including infrastructure, supply chain, taxation, labour market, natural resources, climate change, and more.
“Well-developed policy and effective advocacy to ensure our local businesses survive and thrive is a key focus for our Chamber, and I was pleased to represent Tri-Cities businesses along with our Board's Vice Chair Jenifer Wright at the Canadian Chamber conference,” said Courchesne. “When Chambers and Boards of Trade work together across the nation to leverage the power of our collective voice, we can effect significant change to make business better, and communities stronger.”
The conference also included speakers and panels on a wide variety of economic issues, including a discussion with United States Ambassador to Canada, His Excellency David Cohen, on Russia’s weaponization of oil and Canada’s role in alleviating the global energy crisis.
The Canadian Chamber of Commerce elected Candace Laing, Senior Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer, Nutrien, as its 2022-23 Chair of the Board of Directors.
The final set of approved policy resolutions will be published by the Canadian Chamber in the coming weeks.
Following the Convention and AGM, Courchesne and Wright attended the Canadian Chamber's Hill Day on October 17.
