Update on Employment Insurance Measures due to COVID-19

 

If your business needs to reduce hours and staff because of COVID-19 related challenges, the Employment Insurance (EI) program has been adjusted to apply in more situations. Questions can be directed to 1-833-381-2725 and
EI sickness benefits can provide income support to people unable to work due to a COVID-19 quarantine, or for a self-isolation when it is on the recommendation of a public health official, their employer, medical doctor, a nurse or a person in authority.

 

For COVID-19, the government is eliminating the usual waiting period, so EI benefits are payable for an entire 14-day quarantine/isolation. Applications for COVID-19 benefits are also being fast-tracked. Employees affected can get more information, and apply online here.

 

If you are experiencing symptoms such as cough, fever, difficulty breathing or you are in self-isolation or quarantine, do not visit or enter any Service Canada office.  As an alternative, you may access our services online or by calling 1 800 O-Canada.
