Rocky Point Park has come a long way since my first visit in 1995. It’s gone from a quiet and not so known park to a lively, well-visited and popular destination. Even with its spacious 3.8 hectares of land, you will still see the park flooded with children, families and visitors from all walks of life.

A few Sundays ago, I took a walk on the 2.5 km shoreline trail extending from Old Orchard Park to Rocky Point Park. Every time I walk on this trail I ponder on the beauty of Port Moody and how fortunate I am to live only a block away from the scenic trail.

As I entered Rocky Point Park I noticed loud music playing from a live band, people dancing and large laughing crowds everywhere. There were families barbequing, children running on the playground and playing in the spray park, couples mingling on benches and parents throwing Frisbees with their kids. The positive energy was incredible and the atmosphere was pure enjoyment!

It came to my knowledge later that this was part of Pacific Coast Terminals Summer Sunday Concerts — a lineup of local and international music artists that play every Sunday at 2pm from July 8 – August 26. On the Sunday I was there, a local band, Big City Soul, was playing Motown and Soul music. Let’s just say Big City Soul certainly had their audience captured!

If you’re looking for something fun and free to do this summer, this is it. With Rocky Point’s handful of amenities and onsite restaurants, a free concert is the cherry on top! This Sunday July 29th, Europe’s best Blues pianist will be performing, so don’t miss out on the upcoming performance! For more information go to
