Statement | Reaction to Ride-Sharing Legislation
The Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce welcomes the legislation introduced on November 19, 2018 by the provincial government that will allow ride-sharing companies to enter the B.C. market starting fall of 2019. Jurisdictions across Canada have shown that ride-sharing can promote competition and affordability, improve public safety, support public transit, and serve the needs of important sectors such as tourism and hospitality.
The Chamber does, however, encourage the provincial government to avoid further delays in implementing ride-sharing, and cautions against over-regulating this new sector of the economy. British Columbians need this new transit service to be convenient and, most of all, affordable.
